is it time for a pet?

kyle has been asking me if he can have a pet already for the past weeks. he was asking for a hamster, a dog/puppy, a lizard (gasp!) and other pet-worthy pets. i told him he can if he can answer this basic question:

will you clean up your pet after he poops and pees?

so far the answer is still a resounding NO, he would even say that poop and pee are yucky things and he will never touch those. that he even asked my why he should be the one cleaning u after his pet, isn't it my job to do that? (raising my eyebrows to high heavens). i had to explain to him that i do the cleaning/bathing etc for them because i'm their mommy and wen they're bigger, they'll choose to do those things on their own. pets can't do that.

so that means he's still not ready for one. i explained to him that having a pet is a big responsibility. you not only feed it, but also clean up and take care of it after.

although there are days when he asks me if he's ready to have a pet to take care of. and i just keep on asking him the same question. if he's willing to clean up after his pet then for sure, hubby and i would be willing to give him one. maybe starting with a pet hamster too.

let's wait and see.

flashback

is that you kade?

oh hey there kyle!

these two boys are such carbon copies of me when i was a kid. keon's no contest, came from the same mold as his dad's :)

separation anxiety all over again

kade has turned 9 months yesterday and he has discovered another milestone/feat. whenever i leave him in the crib to grab something quick, he would wail, and call out to me. or whenever i hand him over to his dad for some little daddy-son bonding, he protests, which, to hubby's dismay. i feel bad for hubby that sometimes he gets the impression that his bunso doesn't want him that much vs me. but of course he went through the same thing with our two boys before. it's just heartbreaking to see him that way.

he often jokes that our sons prefer me over him, but i've assured him a hundred times that by the time they reach grade school (which is not far by the looks of it since kyle's in kinder already) they'll be the best of friends and mommy will be the enemy.

but really, deep inside, i love the attention i get from my boys when they were this young. that i am their star, the only thing they need. well, now it's only kade who's doing it for me. kyle and keon have grown up to do things on their own and usually needs me when they want milk or go to the potty.

how time flies so fast that soon enough, these three boys would be so embarrassed to let me kiss them to death, smell their feet and armpits, cuddle and make funny noises before bedtime.

i think i'm the one having separation anxiety for the past 5 years now. hahaha

dr. mommy

weekends are supposed to be a fun time for my 3 kiddos. but unfortunately, this weekend was a bit of a downer. kuya kyle, woke up saturday morning with a fever. a whopping 39 degrees. thank god he's one of the lucky ones who didn't have any febrile seisures. but he was quite lethargic and was camped on the living room sofa sleeping.

he was complaining of an itchy throat. so it was a confirmation that we were on the onset of tonsilitis.

come sunday night, he was back to normal but still running a 38 degree fever. the only consolation was hbo was good to us. he got to watch shrek 3 and kung fu panda.

so tomorrow, off to the pedia for a check up just to make sure. :)

kyle's first gimik

a mom's worst nightmare is when her son finally asks permission to go out at night with friends.

well, technically this happened to me way too early.

kyle and his cousin migs went out for a night out in town. (with mig's parents of course!) the funny and scary part is when kyle said this:

mommy i'm going out with migs. gimik kami

my heart must have leapt to it's death right then and there. haha i was already imagining what if he was saying that to me when he is already of age? but of course everything was in all good fun.

oh but the hirits didn't end there. kuya vince, taught kyle to say this:

mommy we're going to look for girls.

homaygaad it was funny and scary really.

this is kyle on his first gimik:quite tame. for now. hahaha!

thank god he still has a long way to go before he can go on his first real gimik.

my 3rd honor graduate

it was such a pleasant surprise to find out that my little boy, kyle got 3rd honors in school. it was such a proud mommy moment for me.

funny story: Thursday morning (august 27) while waking kyle up for school, one of our yayas told us that kle got 3rd honors in school. we asked how did they find out. yaya told us that she saw the letter from kyle's teacher inside his lunchbox. the letter said that recognition day will be on Friday, which was the next day. if we didn't find out about the good news, our little boy would come up the stage without us. and that would be a sad, sad scene.

but thank god it didn't happen. :) i was able to accompany him and go up the stage. hubby unfortunately, arrived late. just after kyle and i went up the stage. but he was one proud daddy nonetheless. :)

and here's my little boy and his award:and with me getting his award on stage

is it time for a new pet?

we've noticed that kyle has had this early fascination with animals. and since he's turning 4 next month, we've been thinking if it is indeed time to introduce him to a new phase in his life where he has to be responsible in taking care of pets.

hubby and i are thinking about getting him his own dog or cat since usually this are the first pets as a kid. but looking back at my own childhood, my first pet was a duckling. although i was mommy to this duckling for a good 2 weeks before it passed away. it felt good.

hubby and i are thinking that being responsible and the maintenance that goes with pet care can be quite big for kyle, we're sure he'll pass with flying colors. and maybe a new pet can be good alternative to the usual robots and blocks he asks as a gift.

first day high

as a mom, it's quite exciting to send off your kids to school. most especially on their first day of school. but with the current health situation, it seems that keeping them at home is the next best option. not that i don't trust the school in making sure that the kids don't get sick. it's the other parents i'm worried about and how they value hygiene for their kids.

now i have to make sure that my kids have extra sets of alcohol and that they have an extra pair of handkechief in their pockets. and thank god at this early, they know how to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze and stay away from kids that have cough. oc mom much, yes i am.

so much for the excitement in seeing them off tomorrow. now i'm all worried about them being in school for 2 whole hours starting tomorrow.

and yes, even keon will get to experience what school feels like tomorrow. wish me luck!

the long weekend with the kids

thanks to the long weekend, hubby and i was able to spend the long weekend with the kids while they spend their summer vacation with my in laws.

how we spent it is better said in pictures:

kyle wanted a photo while drinking milk. like a baby daw

keon's morning face and his dutdut pillow: tigger

first time in Pepper Lunch with Migs

while i spied Chuvaness and got all giddy and happy. sayang, she didn't stay long for me to have a photo op.

little boys playing house. obviously they're not yet sleepy.

i then realized that it was sunday and hubby and i had to leave and go home to our "other" house. we had to devise a plan to sneak out without the kids knowing or else there would be crying fits between the kids and mommy (har har).

upon reaching home, i just consoled myself with this:

but it just can't compare to how much i miss sleeping beside my boys at night.

kyle and the art of whining

thank god for parenting.com and i am somehow prepared for the whining sessions. i admit even if i prepared myself for this, it is still quite annoying and irritating. but dealing with it comes easy.

to share a few tips and tricks:

> give them a few mintues of your attention or time. give them more hugs, tickles or even a cracker or two. the whining may just be a small bout of hunger or boredom.
> let him hear that the whining sound he makes is not nice and turn it into a funny scene. in short laugh it off, your toddler might not notice that he is in fact whining. (this one works between kyle and i)
> do the exact opposite of what they're doing, if they're whining loudly, answer them back in a whisper. or as if you're telling a secret. this would hold your toddler's attention.

or just give it to them straight. let them know that when they whine, you can't understand them and the only time you can talk to them if they stop whining. this one also works for me and kyle. just keep your calm voice so that your toddler can replicate your mood and everything will flow smoothly. but there will be days that you do get to slip and cave in to the anger and answer back to your kid and a war ensues. it's ok, we're moms, they're kids, we're just human. it's part of the mommy-kids cycle. we get to live with it.

and of course, you have to reward your kid for the good behavior be it an affirmation of him being able to follow your instructions or a hug or a kiss. something that reinforces their good behavior/attitude.

but you won't get it the first time. it's a trial and error thing until you and your toddler gets used to it and before you know it, the whining is over and you're conversing with your toddler like an adult. :)

a lonely home

this is what greeted me when i left for work this morning:

an empty house. no toys on the floor, no screams of "mommy'. no disney channel on cable. just a bare and quiet home.

day 1 and i miss my kids terribly. 3 weeks to go. 3 weeks of silence.

to the graduate!

i just could not imagine that my little boy has now finished one chapter in his life. his first graduation/moving up day/recognition day. it has been a joy to see him excel and become such a big boy in a span of a year.

he has improved a lot ever since he started school and his teacher told me. what was once a shy, clingy, stuttering boy is now a confident, brave, independent and oh so talkative little man that he is now.

to our first graduate, my kyle xavier, mommy and daddy couldn't be more proud of what you have become.

to more milestones and graduations my dear boy. =)

weekend tidbits

this is what i get when kyle catches me plurking: Kyle's turn at Plurking

and when he discovers the joy of the dancing banana and the other emoticons of plurk.

seriously i am not surprised, it is his generation of techie stuff. and it never bothers me that he knows how to navigate youtube when he requests to watch episodes of thomas the tank.

next thing i'll know, he'll have his own blog and would rant about having a mom like me. haha
